Why is it celebrated on July 1 in India? Doctor's Day in India was started in 1991 in India. From then Doctor's Day is celebrated every year on 1st of July as National Doctors day. It is celebrated on 1st of July on the birth anniversary of the physician of India Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. For his relentless work in the field of medical science, he was honored with the Bharat Ratna Award in 1961. The Government of India declared July 1st as the Doctor's Day in 1991 as a token of love and respect to Dr. Roy. Doctors' day is celebrated on different dates in different countries. In the US is celebrated on March 30, in Iran it is celebrated on August 23.
